The Vietnam Traveling Medical Clinic is a project supported by the Wellness Global Foundation which further implements the primary care program. This project will consist mainly of undergraduate and graduate students from the University of Washington, as well as health professionals in the community. The purpose of the Vietnam Traveling Medical Clinic is to provide free primary care to rural villages in Vietnam where the majority of the population lives in poverty. Our group will fundraise to purchase medication and supplies to help serve villages in Vietnam so that they can start their own family medical clinics.

If the funds allow for it, the program is anticipated to hold six total days of clinic in Thai Nguyen, Hanoi, Vinh Long, and Binh Duong, each day serving hundreds of patients, ending only if medicine runs out for the day. The estimated number of total patients is 2,500 – 3,000. The amount of money estimated per day for medicine/supplies is $2500. The length of the entire mission will be two weeks, including travel from North to South Vietnam as well as in between villages. All money donated to the foundation will go directly towards purchasing medication and supplies. Travel and personal expenses for all volunteers and health professionals will be provided by the individual volunteer and not by the foundation. Over the counter drugs, vitamins, and medical supplies such as gloves, bandages, gauze, blood pressure cuffs, etc. will be donated by various offices and corporations so as to maximize the amount of money allotted to purchase prescription medications.

Vietnam Medical Clinic: July 16-31st, 2009
The program is taking 35 volunteers to community hospitals in the North and South regions of Vietnam to understand the culture and learn the importance of public health in rural areas. Volunteers will have responsibilities such as intake, triage, shadowing a doctor in consultation, pharmacy, and pharmacy consultation.

We are in the process of planning for the trip. If you have any ideas or contributions that you have to our organization, we greatly appreciate it. As of right now there are two family doctors traveling with us. Our goal is to have other types of health professionals join our brigade such as MDs, DOs, PAs, RNs, and Pharmacists.
