Kim Behan Named Sisters on the Planet Ambassador

Kim Behan, Executive Director of Wellness Global Foundation, was recently granted the honor of being named an ambassador of Oxfam America’s Sisters on the Planet Initiative.

The Sisters on the Planet Initiative is part of a new social justice program begun by Oxfam America to address a variety of interconnected issues, including food security, gender inequality, climate crisis, hunger, and poverty.

The program brings together prominent women from all over America to take the lead in educating the public, thus highlighting the factors and food policies that affect poverty and hunger for women around the world. The program especially focuses on empowering women with education and training as women are essential to building and feeding a community.  Women as the caretakers and often silent leaders of a family are the anchors of societies, and catalysts for cultural and technological changes.

Women make up 70 percent of the world’s poor who are the most affected by the environmental deterioration caused by climate change.  Many women’s daily activities of collecting water, caring for crops, and taking care of the household will be directly affected by new changes in the developing world.

The Sisters on the Planet Initiative allows women from all around the world to unite, share ideas, and become empowered in order to alleviate and eradicate poverty.  Its goal is to create a forum for the women of the world to aid and teach each other, so that none of our sisters are left alone to bear the brunt of the world’s burden.

Many other incredible women have signed up to with Kim to be ambassadors for Sisters on the Planet. They include award-winning journalist, Elizabeth Becker; Secretary for the California Environmental Protection Agency, Linda Adams; Michigan Governor, Jennifer Granholm and many elected officials; businesswomen;  actors; musicians;  faith leaders; and others.

Mrs. Behan is especially excited to incorporate the work of her fellow sisters, whether they are ambassadors, Oxfam partners, or local sisters in Vietnam, to continue the Wellness Global Foundations’ rice distribution program in rural Vietnam and medical training program for women. She also aspires to expand WGF’s programs to improve poverty relief measures as well as technical training for women.
